Great ways to save money this Christmas
Posted by | Posted in Credit Report | Posted on 04-11-2010
Christmas can be a very expensive time of year, so why not ‘step out of the box’ this year and do something different? Instead of blowing all your money on shopping for food, drink and presents, why not actually save money this year… and here are some family-friendly ways you could do it.
Don’t spend money going out, entertain at home
If you don’t fancy forking out hundreds keeping your children entertained over the Christmas holidays, entertain them at home – for free!
For example, you could set up a ‘Christmas treasure hunt’ around the house. To do this, hide a few treats in hard-to-find places and give your children a list of clues to help find them.
Another thing you could try is letting the kids help you bake some Christmas cookies. They will love getting a little bit messy with the mixture, and will be even happier when they can eat their own creations!
But the best way – by far – to keep your kids entertained this Christmas is to let them help you decorate the house. You could even let them create their own decorations to place around the house. They will love nothing more than seeing their own decorations stuck up around their home.
Make your own gifts
If you’re tired of paying too much buying everyone’s presents – why not make your own this year?
Ok, so it doesn’t sound too appealing, but really have a think about what you could make – Christmas jam, Christmas cakes, even Christmas clothing (socks, jumpers, scarves, etc.).
As for the kids, why not get a collection of their photographs and set them the task of making their very own picture board? This would make an excellent present from the kids to you.
Free tickets
If you’re looking to save even more money on presents this year, you should try and get hold of some free tickets for the filming of a TV show.
You can search online for free tickets, and if you can get hold of some, they will entitle you to be in the audience while one of your favourite shows is being filmed. So, if you know of a TV show a member of your family really likes, you can really surprise them with this great gift idea!
Magazine subscriptions
Magazine subscriptions are presents that just keep giving. You can pay the one-off fee and give someone you love a magazine every month for an entire year! This will save you money as many magazine subscriptions aren’t that expensive – plus, you won’t need to spend money on any other present for them, because subscriptions are normally seen as fairly big gifts.
